broken promises, pain and unbearable excitement!

sooooo... i beginning to think i should give up on promises of writing on this blog every week. i just keep breaking them!

since my last post, i've avoided this place mostly because i haven't been writing. that will change, as you'll find out a little further down in this post ;)

work was exceptionally busy, but i'm experiencing some down time between classes right now, and at least been THINKING about writing, even if i haven't opened a WIP.

we've gotten dumped on by snow AGAIN, and to complicate my life even further, i may or may not have dislocated my knee last Sunday.

i was curling with about 50 people from work and it was my first time trying the sport. i'd been doing pretty good, too, until i finished a slide in the third game. i released my rock, it was going along perfectly, and when i sat up to watch its progress there was a terrible *POP* and then a *SNAP* and i was flat on my back writhing in pain.

so here i am, a week later, still hobbling along on crutches. at least i'll have plenty of time to sit and write! in theory ;)

on to the good news!

the time for RD's mentor program has finally arrived! i sent away my application and now some poor sucker has to whip me and my WIPs into shape (hi Kimberly!)... i promise it won't take much to make me conform - i'm really not into being beaten.

yay. monday.

as my mother will probably agree, i'm essentially a lazy person. however, that's not to say i'm not a perfectionist. i just prefer to put in the least amount of effort possible, but still get results.

and that, my friend, is the downfall of my existence.

i really hate not getting something done right, and as a result, i'd much prefer to not do it at all rather than do something half-assed.

but, when i actually DO start something, i put a ton of effort into it.

i will spend hours picking away at a single task. patience is a forte of mine as my student's can attest to! the result is that i get what i want accomplished, so long as i have the time to do it perfectly.

this applies to pretty much every aspect of my being - from doing my hair before work, cooking meals instead of grabbing a bowl of cereal, or tackling a huge reno.

i like the feeling of getting something done and being all organized and stuff. who doesn't?

anyway, that long ramble was supposed to tie into introducing you to Once A Month Cooking (OAMC). yeah, it didn't work out as planned. whatevs.

every so often, i get the hankering to have home-cooked meals. i'm a bagel-on-the-go sorta gal most of the time, so spaghetti or lasagna or some other casserole type dish is a nice treat. the issue is that i don't always have time to make stuff before work or the night before for the next day.

also, since i live alone, a big ol' pan of something would go to waste if i didn't plan ahead and make something that i could freeze.

enter OAMC. great recipes that make a lot, and store tidily into single-serving containers so i can grab and go to work. my favourite is spaghetti sauce - i freeze the sauce, then slap the boiled noodles on top on the day i'm taking it to work. i do this with lasagna, chicken lasagna and other stuff, too.

yeesh. i sound so organized. i really don't know why i don't have more time to write.

anyway, here are some website that house some great OAMC recipes:

Tuesday blues

that's all there is to say about today.

my bad days are relatively mild, to be honest, so i don't have much room to bitch and moan here.

but there are days i get woken up by telemarketers asking for money, i don't have what i want for breakfast, i'm out of cream for coffee (i think i need to hit the grocery store) and there's a mountain of laundry waiting for me.

plus, we're getting another 30 centimeters of snow starting tomorrow night, and i don't know where i'm going to put it. my driveway has a very narrow divider between it and the neighbor's, so i'm limited there, and the other side has a bank about 9 feet tall already.

and through the excessive blowing wind, un-plowed roads and white-outs, i'm still expected to make it to work.

on the bright side, my house is relatively clean after having company this weekend, i get to wear jeans to work all week instead of dress clothes, and i got lots of kitty cuddles this morning.

maybe life isn't so rough after all...
